The Stach Story
Marcus made captain at a busy South Side house and has the kind of mustache that makes probies stand up straighter. It is a thick, squared-off chevron that he trims every Sunday night with the seriousness of a man cleaning a rifle.
He grew it the year his son was born, "so the kid would always be able to find me in a crowd." Twenty years later the son has one too, which Marcus describes as his proudest leadership achievement.
Marcus coaches youth football in the fall and claims the mustache adds at least four yards to every halftime speech.
Wanted to be the easiest face to spot on a fireground and in a school pickup line.
The Captain
Keeps a spare mustache comb in every coat pocket, including his dress uniform.
