Why Sgt. Roger Murtaugh's Mustache Matters
Roger Murtaugh is the grounded half of one of cinema's best buddy-cop pairings, and Danny Glover plays him with a warmth and weariness that the mustache underlines. It is a classic, tidy chevron — the facial hair of a man with a mortgage, a boat in the driveway and a fiftieth birthday he is not thrilled about.
Across four Lethal Weapon films (1987–1998), Murtaugh's mustache stays consistent even as Riggs's mullet evolves, which tells you everything about the two men. Glover's lip reads as responsible, competent and perpetually exasperated.
It is the mustache of a guy who says "I'm too old for this" and then does it anyway, and it remains one of the most relatable lips in action cinema.
