About Andy Reid
Andrew Walter Reid was born in 1958 in Los Angeles, played offensive line at BYU, and worked his way up through college and NFL assistant jobs, including a long stint with the Green Bay Packers under Mike Holmgren. The Philadelphia Eagles hired him as head coach in 1999, and over 14 seasons he took them to five NFC Championship Games and Super Bowl XXXIX.
In 2013 he took over the Kansas City Chiefs and built one of the great sustained runs in league history: a decade of division titles, the 2017 trade up to draft Patrick Mahomes, and Super Bowl championships in LIV, LVII and LVIII. He became the first coach to win 100 games with two different franchises and ranks among the winningest head coaches ever.
Off the field he is famous for a deadpan sense of humor, a love of cheeseburgers, and a post-game wardrobe of Hawaiian shirts.
Why the Stach Became Iconic
Reid's mustache is the great sideline walrus of the modern NFL: broad, gray, and drooping over the lip like it is hiding a play sheet. Combined with the ruddy complexion and the visor, it is as much a part of the Chiefs' brand as the arrowhead.
It is the mustache of a man who has called 3,000 screen passes and regretted none of them.
