The Story

About Craig Stadler

Craig Stadler was born in 1953 in San Diego, California. He won the 1973 U.S. Amateur, starred at USC, and turned professional in 1975. His breakout came in 1982, when he won the Masters in a playoff and finished the season as the PGA Tour\'s leading money winner.

Stadler collected 13 PGA Tour wins and played on two U.S. Ryder Cup teams (1983, 1985). After turning 50 he became a force on the Champions Tour, winning the Senior Players Championship twice and a pair of senior majors.

His son Kevin Stadler also played on the PGA Tour, and in 2014 they became the first father and son to compete in the same Masters.

The Verdict

Why the Stach Became Iconic

The nickname "The Walrus" was earned honestly: a drooping, bushy, gray-brown mustache on a stocky frame, usually accompanied by a grimace after a missed putt. Golf is not a sport famous for facial hair, which makes Stadler\'s mustache the reigning champion by default and by merit.
