Richard Petty was born in 1937 in Level Cross, North Carolina, the son of NASCAR pioneer Lee Petty. Driving the famous Petty Blue No. 43, he won a record 200 Cup Series races, seven championships, and seven Daytona 500s during a career that spanned from 1958 to 1992.

His 1967 season, with 27 wins including 10 in a row, remains one of the most dominant in motorsports history. His final victory came on July 4, 1984, at Daytona, with President Ronald Reagan in attendance.
