About Dale Earnhardt
Ralph Dale Earnhardt was born in 1951 in Kannapolis, North Carolina, the son of short-track racer Ralph Earnhardt. He won NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year in 1979 and his first championship in 1980, then went on to win seven Cup championships (1980, 1986, 1987, 1990, 1991, 1993, 1994), tying Richard Petty\'s record.
Earnhardt won 76 Cup races, including the 1998 Daytona 500 after 19 frustrating tries. His aggressive, bumper-to-bumper driving style earned him the nicknames "The Intimidator" and "The Man in Black."
He died in a last-lap crash at the 2001 Daytona 500, a loss that led to sweeping safety changes in the sport. He was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in its inaugural class in 2010.

The Earnhardt mustache is inseparable from the wraparound sunglasses and the black Goodwrench firesuit. It was a working-man\'s mustache — thick, unfussy, and always there — and it made him look like the kind of driver who would move you out of the way and not feel bad about it.
