The Story

About Larry Weishuhn

Larry Weishuhn is a Texas wildlife biologist, outdoor writer and television personality known across the hunting world as "Mr. Whitetail." After a career as a biologist working with whitetail deer and habitat on Texas ranches, he became one of the most widely published outdoor writers in the country, with thousands of magazine articles and a shelf of books on deer, deer management and big-game hunting.

He moved naturally into broadcasting and has hosted and co-hosted hunting programs on outdoor networks for years, along with podcasts and speaking appearances. He is a co-founder of the Texas Trophy Hunters Association and has been honored by a number of outdoor and conservation organizations over a long career.

But for mustache purposes, the resume is secondary to the lip. Weishuhn wears a magnificent, sweeping mustache that curls out past the cheeks, a look as identifiable in the hunting industry as his cowboy hat.

The Verdict

Why the Stach Became Iconic

Among outdoor personalities, Weishuhn's mustache is in a class of its own: thick, wide and curled at the ends into a handlebar that would not look out of place in an 1880s Texas saloon. Paired with the hat and the drawl, it makes him one of the most instantly recognizable figures at any hunting convention.

It is also a working mustache, worn through decades of brush-country deer hunts, African safaris and long days in the field. Style plus mileage is the Hall of Fame formula, and Mr. Whitetail has both.
