Why Ron Burgundy's Mustache Matters
Ron Burgundy is kind of a big deal, and his mustache is the biggest part of the deal. Will Ferrell's 1970s newsman wears a dense, perfectly squared chevron that sits above a mouth permanently open to say something inappropriate on live television.
Anchorman (2004) is a love letter to the era of local-news machismo, and the mustache is the centerpiece of the costume: burgundy suit, wide lapels, feathered hair, and that lip. It has become shorthand for the whole decade, and it is the single most common "funny mustache" reference in modern pop culture.
Ferrell reprised the role in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013), mustache intact, because some things are sacred.
