The Story

About Rick Rude

Richard Erwin Rood was born in 1958 in St. Peter, Minnesota, and wrestled as "Ravishing" Rick Rude, one of the great villains of the 1980s and 1990s. After working in several regional territories, he joined the WWF in 1987, where his pre-match routine — insulting the "fat, out-of-shape sweathogs" in the crowd before removing his robe — made him one of the most hated men on the roster.

Rude won the WWF Intercontinental Championship from the Ultimate Warrior at WrestleMania V in 1989, then moved to WCW, where he held the United States and International World Heavyweight titles. A back injury ended his in-ring career in 1994.

He later managed and appeared on-screen for both WCW and the WWF, famously appearing on both companies\' shows on the same night in 1997. Rude died in 1999 at age 40 and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2017.

The Verdict

Why the Stach Became Iconic

A precise, dark mustache set over a permanent smirk, paired with airbrushed tights and hip swivels. It was a villain\'s mustache in the classic sense — you could practically hear it twirling — and it was maintained to perfection.
